Russia Passes USA on Combat Aircraft Output

Normally I don't translate stuff like this, but there are some good pictures of the Komsomol'sk-Na-Amure Aviation Factory...and some numbers of production from last year that match earlier blog entries.  Plus, it was a fairly easy article :)

Russia Passes the United States on Combat Aircraft Output

1 Mar 2015

In 2014 the Russian aviation industry set a few records.  According to Regnum, production of combat aircraft including exports was no less than 124. As can be seen from that, Russian not only passed its best from Soviet times (1983-1990, the average was 110 combat aircraft a year), but it has taken first place in the world:  the United States in 2014 produced no more than 100 aircraft for its Air Forces, and China, which uses Russian engines, produced even less.

Russian Federation Air Forces received 45 Su-35S and Su-30SM multirole fighters , 18 frontal aviation Su-34 bombers, 10 carrier based MiG-29K/KUB, 20 Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft, 4 passenger An-148, and a Tu-204ON.

Holding company "Russian Helicopters" produced more than 300 rotary aircraft and almost 50 military aircraft were produced by companies not in the holding company.  This is a little bit less than in Soviet times which at its best year produced 380 helicopters, but the reduction in the country and aircraft are more expensive and modern now.

On the world market, 14% of sales are from "Russian Helicopters."  Especially the popular Mi-8/17 - they are even bought by the United States for the Afghanistan Army.  Over the course of a year, more than 70 strike helicopters - Ka-52, Mi-28, and Mi-35 - Russia is first place in the world.

Another important area is the modernization of the existing inventory.  In 2015, the RFAF will receive 5 updated Tu-160 strategic bombers and 9 long-range Tu-22M3.  In addition to the nuclear weapons, they are able to carry precision missiles against maritime and ground targets.  By the end of the year, a large portion of the all-altitude MiG-31 interceptor will be modernized - the potential of this aircraft is that it is able to detect and destroy a variety of targets:  from cruise missiles to satellites.  According to the MoD planes, by 2020 the RFAF will have at least 700 modernized aircraft.

In 2016, serialized production and delivery of the 5th generation T-50 (PAK-FA) will begin.  Design of the PAK-DA strategic bomber will be completed.  Flight tests on the PAK-DA will begin in 2019 and delivery will start in 2025.  Work on the new transport PAK-TA is being carried out.
